About SoSSt | African Youth Empowerment

SoSSt is a Charlotte-based nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting first-generation African immigrant and diaspora youth. Our mission is to nurture their leadership potential, amplify their voices, and cultivate a strong sense of cultural pride and belonging. We recognize that youth are not just the future — they are the present. Since 2014, SoSSt has created transformative spaces where young people can explore identity, build community, and take ownership of their stories through storytelling, cultural expression, and hands-on mentorship. Diaspora youth experience identity fragmentation, cultural invisibility, and inequitable access to academic, mental health, and economic resources. Without culturally affirming interventions, risks include depression, educational disconnection, and underrepresentation in leadership roles.
